Welcome to The Free OT
Here you will find occupational therapy insight and advice to help you and your caregivers stay safe and independent at home. Get practical advice and recommendations to help set up your living environment and handle common problems that arise at home and in the community.
Most people want to stay in their own home and manage their daily routines independently for as long as possible. That can be difficult as a person’s physical and/or cognitive abilities change. Whether it is a short term period of recovery, a new normal, or a slow progressive decline, some simple changes can make your daily routines easier and safer for you to do. Occupational therapy is the art and science of matching up a person’s abilities, their environment and the task they want to do in a way that maximizes their success and independence.
As hospital and rehab stays are getting shorter and shorter you may find yourself back home with many questions that occur to you only after your providers have moved on. If you have questions about taking care of yourself or loved one at home then you are in the right place. This website can help! Here we will take a close look at many common activities of daily living and give practical advice for setting up your living environment to support productive and satisfying aging in place.
Click on each button below to get detailed advice and assistance for that activity. For a list of organizations that provide low and no cost durable medical equipment (DME) in Washington State click on the Medical Equipment Resource button.
